Meet the Harle Dogs Toy Testers: Harley and Lebowski

The Harle Dogs dog toy testers are Harley and Lebowski, two black Pomeranians in Arizona who chew, tug, fetch, and bury every toy Harle Dogs considers selling, for weeks, before it earns a place in the store. Only 4 toys have passed. The brand is named after them: HAR for Harley, LE for Lebowski.
What does a Harle Dogs dog toy tester actually do?
A Harle Dogs toy tester destroys things for a living. Harley and Lebowski get every candidate toy in daily chewing sessions, tug of war against each other and against their humans, fetch on grass, gravel, and tile, and the bury-and-rediscover cycle in the yard, for weeks at a stretch. There is no lab, no clipboard, and no mercy. Plush toys last minutes. Hollow vinyl cracks. Rope-only toys unravel into spaghetti. A toy that comes through all of that intact is the only kind Harle Dogs sells.
Why Pomeranians?
Because they are the dogs Harle Dogs has, and because small dogs with big opinions turn out to be thorough testers. Harley and Lebowski have small mouths, strong jaws, and unlimited patience for working one spot on a toy until it gives. A toy that survives that treatment holds up for larger breeds too, which is why the Harle Dogs football, the heaviest toy in the lineup at about 9 ounces, is the pick for big chewers.
Which toys passed the test?
Four, and Harle Dogs sells nothing else:
- The rubber bone, 8 inches, about 7 ounces, $16
- The rubber soccer ball, 3 inches on a 12 inch rope, about 6 ounces, $14
- The rubber football in coral, 6 by 4 by 3 inches, about 9 ounces, $18
- The rubber football in navy, same size, $18
All four are solid natural rubber with a braided cotton tug rope and no stuffing, no squeaker, and no seams. Harle Dogs publishes exact sizes and weights on every product page and explains which toy fits which chewer on the dog toys for heavy chewers page.
How did two dogs end up running a toy company?
The honest version: most toys did not survive them. Stuffed animals lasted minutes, cheap rubber cracked, ropes unraveled, and the living room floor kept filling with headless plush. Their humans went hunting for toys that could keep up with two serious chewers, found a handful, and Harle Dogs was born to sell the survivors. VoyagePhoenix told the story in a January 2023 interview. Harle Dogs is owned by Harle Dogs LLC in Arizona; the humans run the business and the dogs handle quality control.
Can my dog become a Harle Dogs toy tester?
Not officially, at least not yet. Harle Dogs has exactly two testers and no public tester program, and Harle Dogs would rather say that plainly than collect applications it cannot use. What Harle Dogs does read, every day, is the real feedback from real dogs: tag a photo or video of your dog with a Harle Dogs toy using #harledogs, or reply to the review email that arrives about a week after a toy is delivered. If a tester program ever opens, the newsletter in the footer is where Harle Dogs will announce it.
Are the toys made where the testing happens?
No, and Harle Dogs says so on every product page. The toys are manufactured in China to Harle Dogs specifications and durability tested in Arizona by Harley and Lebowski. Harle Dogs would rather a buyer know that before ordering than be surprised after.
